  • Online review of Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011

If you're not familiar with the 2011 version of Cabela's Dangerous Hunts, then you might read the name and just assume it is a big game hunting simulator of some form. We All might have come across this kind of hunting game before, the kind where you choose your weapon, choose your camouflage, and take up a solid hour struggling to tell the distinction among big game poop and a clump of dirt. Yet somewhere among killing a attacking predator in awesome slow motion and fighting off hungry wolf packs who have evil red eyes, you will realize that belief does not quite pertain to this particular game.

This version of Dangerous Hunts 2011 is more accurately described as a survival game first and a hunting game 2nd. The plot has you in the shoes of a adventerer named Cole whose quest forces him through many types of terrain around America and Canda and the continent of Africa to shoot wild animals that have been taken over by spirits. One particular level we were shown Cole coming out from an avalanche in the middle of night, moving through the snowy woods and fending off attacking animals trying to stalk him while dealing with other dangers, like hidden bear traps and a river of cracked ice.

Similar to older games in this genre, the player plays the game using a special gun controller that has a telescopic scope and adjustable stock, as well as analog sticks to control the players range of motion so that the player don't have to play on rails. The red scope is awesome, and fun to use. It can be in fact sorta demanding to see through the thing. In order to make use of it, you hit the A button and it makes the screen viewable through the red lens. Keep in mind, it can be difficult to see what you are shooting at, making for a frustrating game. Besides allowing you some more control over how the gun is shot, the gun controller comes with a neat feature aptly called Hunter Vision. This feature will expose objects that are hidden by temporarily rendering the game screen a fairly garbled assortment of red hued colors that you can decipher by peering through the rifle scope of the weapon as though it were infrared.

For those people who had the previous version of the gun where the trigger was in the front, this gun is much better. The trigger is now in the back, and the front has a pump reload. Additionally, all of the controls are customizable (not like the earlier version). The gun is adjustable so even big players have the ability to keep the stock of the rifle in their shoulder while peering through the scope, adding realism to the game.

Aside from the previously mentioned story mode, Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011 will come with a number of other modes, including multiplayer options, like as the Shooting Gallery similiar to some other hunting games. Also, the game in general is really hard to play. I thoroughly enjoyed playing the game and I really like to play hunting games online as much as I can.
